The Pismo Clam fishery has returned in greater numbers than ever before — Pismo Beach, California is so thick with clams it's hard to stick a fork or shovel into the sand. For those unfamiliar with these clams, they live in the surf zone on the shores of central California, with the largest concentration at Pismo Beach. They are one of the most delicious clams you will find, and the only way to get them is to sport-harvest them yourself — they are not allowed to be commercially taken. California fishing regulations require: -A California fishing license for individuals 16 and older. -Each person MUST carry their own fixed-opening measuring gauge (what we are selling in this listing!). -Each person MUST have their own container for clams they harvest. Co-mingling harvested clams is illegal. -Undersized clams must be re-buried, it is the law. -You may only take clams from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. -Limit is 10 clams. About our handheld gauge: -Made from sturdy 10-gauge aluminum — will not rust in saltwater. -CNC-machined opening for an accurate measurement (other gauges may not be precise — don't get caught taking undersized clams). -Features lanyard holes so you can fasten it securely to your waders or use a wrist strap, keeping it with you in the surf. -Patterned after the Pismo Clam gauges everyone used from the 1950s through the 1990s. Get your kit together so you are legal — don't get fined by Fish and Game. -If you are willing to get wet, any tide below +3 feet will get you an easy limit. -If you only want to get your toes wet, plan your clamming for a tide less than +0.5 feet. -A pitchfork is the best tool for finding and digging clams (watch the video). -A diver's catch bag is the best receptacle; buckets tend to get washed away. -Get out there and get some clams!
