What the Film Tries to Be

Karuppu Pulsar attempts to merge three genres—romantic comedy, supernatural thriller, and social drama—into a single narrative. At its core, it wants to be an entertaining yet meaningful film that uses a “haunted object” trope to comment on buried injustices, while still staying accessible to a mainstream Tamil audience.

Narrative Structure – Where It Falters

The film is clearly divided into two halves.
The first half leans heavily on humor and situational comedy built around a harmless lie, which works in parts but feels familiar.
The second half shifts dramatically into a darker, rural revenge drama. While this tonal shift is largely effective and engaging, the transition could have been smoother. A few narrative beats feel rushed, slightly reducing the emotional impact of key revelations.

Character Utilisation

Attakathi Dinesh’s character arc is the strongest aspect of the film, giving him enough space to explore two contrasting emotional states. Reshma’s character is written with dignity, though her role diminishes once the film moves into revenge mode.
Supporting characters like Mansoor Ali Khan and Prankster Rahul are well-used for balance, but a couple of pivotal rural characters feel underwritten, limiting their potential impact.

Visual & Technical Merits

Visually, the film is impressive. The contrast between the bright cityscapes and the grim rural settings is striking. The motorcycle is framed almost like a living entity, enhancing the supernatural tension.
The background score plays a major role in elevating scenes, especially during possession sequences, while crisp editing ensures the film never feels overly stretched.

Theme vs Execution

The film’s themes—justice, guilt, and suppressed anger—are strong and relevant. Execution-wise, the second half handles these themes with maturity and intensity.
