Introduction

Morgan is a crime-suspense thriller with a psychological undertone, featuring elements of mysticism tied to Siddhar’s Sidhu practice. At its core, it follows the hunt for a serial killer who uses chemicals as his murder weapon and leaves no trace but mystery behind.

Storyline

When a woman is gruesomely murdered using a chemical injection, ex-Mumbai cop Vijay Antony lands in Chennai to assist in solving the case. As more murders surface, he teams up with Ajay Theesan, whose peculiar behavior casts suspicion. What is Ajay’s real identity? What drives these chemical killings? And can Vijay Antony crack the case in time?
While the film follows standard crime thriller templates, the inclusion of Siddhar’s Sidhu game adds an intriguing twist—albeit not fully explored.

Performance Highlights

  • Vijay Antony delivers a measured performance as an ex-cop turned investigator. His body language and stoic presence match the film’s tone.

  • Ajai Deeshan, as the debutant, is surprisingly versatile. He handles action, emotion, and romance convincingly, though his character arc feels like it’s crafted to showcase his range rather than serve the plot naturally.

  • Supporting actors like Samuthirakani, Brigida, Mahanadhi Shankar, and Ramachandran bring depth and keep the narrative grounded, even during its abrupt detours.

Technical Brilliance

  • Music and BGM by Vijay Antony is a major plus. The background score builds tension and keeps viewers engaged, especially during slower screenplay sections.

  • Cinematography by S. Yuva complements the crime-thriller aesthetic. His camera work highlights seemingly mundane objects that become key visual cues in the film’s twists.

Direction and Production

Leo John Paul, known for his editing prowess, makes a decent debut as director. He paces the first half crisply, using clever setups to mislead the audience into premature conclusions. However, the second half loses steam. With the sudden introduction of subplots and unnecessary characters, the story veers off course, dampening the narrative tension.

Plus

  • Strong background score

  • Interesting murder methodology

  • Tight first half with solid suspense build-up

  • Ajai Deeshan’s promising debut performance

Minus

  • Second-half deviation weakens overall impact

  • Siddhar Sidhu element underutilized

  • New characters late in the film disrupt pacing

  • Predictable climax

Final Thoughts

Morgan starts off as a gripping investigative thriller with a psychological and spiritual edge but falls into the trap of over-complication. Though engaging in parts, especially due to its music and visuals, the film ultimately feels like a missed opportunity due to its inconsistent screenplay.
